My Thoughts On Diet Culture

Nobody should be made to feel like their weight or their size is more important than their health and happiness. Our generation in particular has become obsessed with our bodies and how we look, especially in comparison to others. Of course, social media plays a huge part in this. We are driven by the likes, shares and follows on social media, and subconsciously use this as a measure of worthiness. Everywhere we go and every type of media we consume is pushing an “ideal” that is largely un-achievable or unhealthy for the majority of the population.

How I Deal With Weight Gain

A few weeks ago now, I experienced what I can only describe as a total outfit and body confidence crisis. I was away at my boyfriend’s house, so I had packed limited clothing options, and I started to get ready to go out and realised I looked ‘fat’ in everything. I put fat in quotation marks as I am fully aware that I am not in fact, at all ‘fat’, but I am the biggest that I have ever been (we’ll get to that). Cue full blown breakdown and any concern from the last 9 months of constant weight gain to let itself out.

My Sort-Of Summer Goals

Summer has always been my favourite of all seasons. As a kid, I used to look forward to going to summer camp, going on family holidays and being free. Now that I’m older, I find I long for the freshly warm weather which a few months ago seemed an impossible reality! I spend winter wrapped in layers upon layers of clothing praying for days where I can get dressed in the morning with no worries of a potential downpour. This will sound cliche, but the basic act of living just becomes so much easier with a little sunshine and freedom
