It’s that time of year again where all original content and ideas go out of the window and all of your favourite bloggers will be writing posts exactly like this. Blogging goals for 2020. I’m happy to admit that I’m completely unoriginal and out of ideas for the year, because it’s been a tough one, blogging-wise. But I’m hoping that with my new found motivation and a trusty colour-coded spreadsheet, that 2020 will be a lot more productive and successful.
I’m a big lover of a list, or a spreadsheet, or a Trello board, or anything really that involves planning and organisation. And I think that’s why I find the New Year quite refreshing. I can restart on all of my goals and aspirations and work towards new and exciting things for another 12 months. So it’s no surprise that I’ve got a few blogging goals for 2020 in mind…
Increase readership and following
It’s pretty standard, really. I think we all aim to continue to grow on whichever platforms we find valuable and enjoy. I have set myself some goal numbers for 2020, but I’d like to keep them a bit hush-hush in case I spectacularly fail as I have done with this year’s goals!
I’d specifically like to focus on blog views and followers for the year ahead. Whilst I understand that social media is important and brands especially are focussing a lot of attention on Instagram – I’m a writer, and I want my blog to be the absolute best it can be and where my followers spend most of their time and attention.
Secure paid collaborations
Another one that has been on my list for a while now. I still find the paid side of the blogging world a bit of a mystery, despite it being part of my actual day job. I think I’m still at the point where my stats don’t really get the attention of many brands – my DA is low (ish), my views are average, my Instagram is a bit naff – it all adds up to not being a fantastic candidate for paid work at the moment. But hopefully, with some serious work, 2020 could be my year.
Continue to grow and evolve my content
As I think is natural with bloggers, the topics of my content have evolved a bit over the last 3 years. There’s less creative writing and beauty content now, but more lifestyle and educational bits. This year especially I’ve created two series; The Hormone Diaries and Abi Adventures – both of which I have really enjoyed writing and will continue into next year.
In a similar theme to The Hormone Diaries, I would like to create more content around sex and relationships in general. It’s a topic I really enjoy writing about and I feel it’s not as saturated as other topics in blogs. I’ve got a few ideas jotted down around sex toys and body confidence and other things, so keep your eyes peeled!
Increase organic rankings
I’ve started to take SEO a bit more seriously this year also, and have a few posts ranking on page 1 of search engines which is amazing and brings in a nice bit of extra traffic. I’m learning so much about SEO through my day job as well that I would like to continue to keep working on it throughout next year, on new posts as well as refreshing older content.
Write more guest posts
I do still feel like I haven’t fully found my place in the blogging community and as such, I would really like to start writing guest posts. It will help to get my name out there a bit more, as well as making connections with more bloggers and their readers too. Please let me know if you’re a blogger and you have any guest posts slots available, or you’d like to throw some ideas around!
