Birchbox really have outdone themselves this month! They have teamed up with possibly one of my favourite UK brands, the stationary company Ohh Deer. Ohh Deer specialise in quirky, funny, and individual stationary from notebooks and planners, to sticky notes and pencils. I’ve been a fan of theirs for about 2 years now, and the obsession only got worse when they opened a store down the road from my University!
On to the review, the box (designed by Chloe Hall) is probably one of my favourite designs I have received in the last 9 months or so of being a subscriber. It’s bright, light and has that ‘get me to the beach’ feeling bout it, don’t you think? The theme for this month is ‘Stand Tall’ and it’s all about embracing being you!
FULL SIZE Lord & Berry Blusher Crayon in Peach RRP £15
The first item is a blusher crayon from Lord & Berry. Now, I’m not a huge fan of blusher normally and it’s not something I wear very often as I’m naturally quite red anyway. This was the sneak-peek item of last month and I left it up to the angels at Birchbox to decide which colour I would receive. I ended up with the Peach colour, which is a bit more orangey and light than I had expected, but it didn’t look too bad! I’ll admit, its probably not something I will use very often, but it’s got a lovely creamy texture and was quite long-lasting when I tested it!
Marcelle Waterproof Eyeliner in Charcoal RRP £10.99*
I swear by black eyeliner and mine has just run out so this was a perfect item for me! It’s not as black as I had hoped, more of a dark grey when applied, but it will still add that sense of drama and pop to any eye look. It has a soft texture and is really easy to use. It claims to be long-lasting, smudge-resistant and waterproof and I would agree with all three! To test its capabilities, I showered with this on and emerged looking pretty similar to how I did before. Not a panda eye in sight!
Thermaliv Night Cream RRP £15.75*
I’ve not really used night cream regularly before as I tend to have quite oily skin in places. However, this cream felt like it absorbed quite quickly into my skin and I didn’t wake up feeling oily or greasy, so maybe I’ve found one that works for me?! It has a nice, light scent too.
Paul & Joe Beauty Moisturising Foundation Primer S in 01 Dagree RRP £24*
This is a brand that I have never heard of or come across before, it I was intrigued to try this. It’s difficult to say how well it works as it’s a primer, but it gave a nice, shimmery base to my daily make-up and helped my foundation blend easier over dry patches.
Afterspa Amazing Makeup Remover RRP £5.50
This is probably the product I got most excited about this month, as I’ve not really seen anything like it before. All this cloth needs is a bit of water and it will remove all your make up without a problem. It worked so well when I tried it, and is super soft and kind to skin too. Would highly recommend!
Overall, I was happy with this month’s box. I will definitely be using the waterproof eyeliner and makeup remover in future and will continue to give the other products a try. My biggest criticism or disappointment would probably be the colour of the blusher crayon, as I’m not too sure it will work with my skin and seems a bit wishy-washy, but we will see.
PS. It comes with stickers!
