My 2018 Goals

As the New Year approaches, everyone’s minds tend to wander towards what we can do in 2018 to improve ourselves and our lives. Rather than resolutions, I like to set myself goals of things to accomplish and set targets of places I want to be.

2018 new years resolutions goals and aspirations
I find resolutions are largely based in negativity. Things like “I’m going to stop eating chocolate” aren’t decisions that are regularly made for good. These ideas tend to be based in negative thoughts, whether you think you are overweight or unfit or whatever else it may be. So, instead of a resolution, I have opted for a list of things I would like to achieve this year, place I’d like to visit and habits I would like to try and keep:

  1. Pluck up the courage to attend the gym alone

Whilst at university, I really enjoyed going to the gym. I went with friends and it felt really good to exercise and I could feel myself getting fitter. Since moving back home, I haven’t been to the gym once because I have this irrational fear of going alone. I hate that feeling that everybody is looking at you and I don’t like feeling like I don’t know what I’m doing. I know it’s part of my anxiety and it will not be easy to overcome, but I really miss exercising and I am determined to at least try and get over my fear.

  1. Read more books

At the start of 2017, I set myself the goal of reading a book a month. Sadly, I didn’t manage this as my studies got in the way of any leisure reading I had planned, but I’d like to try the same again this year. My plan is to replace screen time late at night with reading a chapter or two of a book, so hopefully this will help my quality of sleep too!

  1. Expand my blog and potentially monetise

Recently, I’ve not been too great at keeping to my posting schedule, but now that I am more settled in my job, I feel I can plan blog posts a lot better. I am aiming to post every Sunday in 2018 (the day may change depending on personal circumstances etc) with the ultimate goal of growing my readership and hopefully collaborating with other bloggers and maybe even brands. I have also been doing a lot of research into going self-hosted so that may be happening in the next few months!

  1. Do more short breaks

Due to a family wedding, I already have a week away planned in July, but I’m such a travel bug and would love to travel more in 2018. I’d like to explore more of the historical UK cities such as Cambridge, Bath, Chester and York, as well as possibly going on one of two European city breaks. I’m currently wanderlusting over Italy and Poland, so we’ll see!

  1. Find a hobby/class to attend

Aside from blogging, I don’t really have a hobby as such. I enjoy music and films, and try and go to live events and the cinema as often as I can, but I would love to take a night class and or join a group in my local area. I’m not too sure what I’d like to learn yet, but possibly a language or something that can work alongside my career would be good!

Do you have any goals for the year ahead? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to hear from you!

Amazing list of goals! I really can’t pluck up the courage to go to the gym alone, either, lol but I guess this the year to take it up 😀

Great post! I agree entirely and think I’m more likely to give up on negative ones. I too have similar goals – I’ve joined beginners netball to get more social and I understand about the gym too. I feel the same. I rejoined recently and still haven’t plucked up the courage to go do weights on my own. Keep us updated of how things pan out! 🙂

I have goals as well and I actually separated them into blogging and personal. Personal-wise most of my goals relate to confidence and improving myself as a person. Blogging-wise my goal is to give back more love—comment on blogs I haven’t come across before, like yours—and take more photos myself.
I haven’t come across the idea of resolutions tied to negativity theory before, and it does kind of make sense!

My resolutions this year are growing my blog as well and travelling more 😊 Good luck for achieving your goals xxx
